Surface characteristics and resistance to wear are the major considerations that determine the type of raw material and applied finish that are built into a Mitchell-Bissell wire guide. Whether or not you require chrome plating, satin, or mirror finish, ceramic or plain steel wire guides, Mitchell-Bissell is prepared to furnish you with the configuration you want and the surface finish you require. Surveillance and maintenance of Mitchell-Bissell manufacturing standards is accomplished by accepted quality control methods.
Thread guides are manufactured from a variety of metals – cold rolled steel, music wire, stainless steel, brass, bronze, aluminum, beryllium copper. Finishing of the parts includes heat treat, case hardening, nitriting, chrome plating and black oxide.
Ceramic Thread Guides
Michell-Bissell provides ceramic thread guides. The ceramic can be a stand alone piece or installed on a metal holding mechanism. These thread guides can be customized to the customers’ needs. Our catalog of standard products is shown below.
Materials:
Titanium Dioxide – Natural
A very hard, homogeneous Ceramic. Properties contribute to excellent surface finishes having exceptional wear resistance and excellent dimensional accuracy. Chemically inert. Color: Tan, Moh’s Hardness 8. When ordering, specify part followed by TN. for material required.
Titanium Dioxide – Conductive
Identical to standard Titanium Dioxide with the added feature of being electrically conductive – eliminating static problems in all yarns. Color: Black. Moh’s Hardness 8. When ordering, specify part number followed by TC for material.
Alumina
Sapphire hard – Moh’s Hardness 9. Homogeneous, chemically inert, mechanically strong. Properties contribute to excellent surface finishes and excellent dimensional accuracy. Ultimate for long life in thread guides. Colors: White; Light Pink; Dark Pink. When ordering, specify part number followed by AL for material required.
Porcelain
This material is still preferred by some customers.
